The census-designated place of Brandon is situated in the heart of Hillsborough County, Florida. Well over 100,000 people now reside within the borders of Brandon, though less than a century ago the area was vastly unpopulated.
Brandon’s documented history began on January 20, 1857 with John Brandon and his first wife, Martha, arriving with their six sons. Initially the family settled in what is known as the Seffner area, though just over a year later John Brandon purchased the 40 acres which would eventually become known as “Brandon”.
The community’s growth has come in spurts, but it was not until after World War II when the population experienced tremendous growth. The population of the area was 100 in 1922. As of 2010, the recorded population was 103,483.
Dissolving Jewish Marriages in the Brandon Area
Florida is well known for it’s healthy Jewish population, though unfortunately the reality which anyone of any faith faces is divorce. Dissolving a Jewish marriage (also known as a “GET”) requires expert and experienced handling, and is not the same as dissolving your typical marriage here in America.
How Can You Dissolve a Jewish Marriage
In order to dissolve a Jewish marriage, both individuals must enter into a civil transaction which utilizes Florida Statutes (which is the same as any other marriage). The difference is that there is a small ceremony where both parties involved in the marriage must recite specific words from the Torah, and a Rabbi (or another religious individual) will preside over the dissolving of your marriage. When the specific statements are spoken and prayers are read, the procedure is in compliance with the Torah and both husband and wife are then officially divorced.
Why Contact an Attorney for a GET
Depending on your circumstances, you may not require an attorney for your GET. However, as we at the Anton Legal Group know, individuals who enlist in the help of an experienced attorney are provided with better legal understanding and counsel than if they do not.
Our law firm is honored to be the part of a GET and to help promote the healthy future of both parties involved in a Jewish marriage. The goal of our law firm is to ensure that your divorce will comply with both Florida Law and national law. If you are facing a GET and would like to discuss your particular situation, we invite you to contact us today for a free consultation at (813) 443-5249.
